Rules & Regulations
The Nezperce Lions Club reserves the right to REFUSE entry of ANY COMBINE or COMPETITOR from competition
1. Combine Requirements
a. Reels, Cutter Bar, All Glass, Fuel Tank, Straw Chopper & Fins, and Unloading Auger MUST BE REMOVED.
b. Roll Bars MUST be installed in a manner as to provide sufficient protection to the driver. In addition, there MUST be at least a cage 34 inches high around the driver. Cabs MUST be reinforced on ALL sides. No limits on metal sizes used for this protection.
c. Reinforcements to the header platform must NOT extend further than the outside of the ORIGINAL drive tires.NO additional iron may extend beyond the BACK of the header platform or the front of the feeder house. Header ends MUST be turned toward the inside of the header. Any original pieces/parts of the combine can be removed and placed as reinforcement within the red boundaries as shown below. NO added iron may exceed 10 pieces of 2x2x1/4 inch square, or 2x1/4 inch round. All tubing used will be subject to internal inspection by the Judges. Drive belts and hydro lines may be guarded so long as they do NOT incorporate reinforcement to any other component. Concaves and shafts may be used for protection.
d. The cutter-bar must be 18 inches inches from the ground. Hydraulic lift cylinders MUST be blocked or welded. All leveling cylinders MUST be blocked. Split rims will not be used on the steering axle. No exceptions will be allowed.
e.   A WELL SECURED approved fuel container holding no more than 5 gallons of fuel will be placed in the bulk tank for the fuel source.
f. A Class “C” Fire extinguisher is REQUIRED and MUST be mounted within reach of the driver.
g. Tires may be filled with AIR ONLY.
h. No other reinforcements shall extend beyond the boundaries as shown below in RED.
2. Driver & Pit Crew Requirements
a. Pit crew may consist of up to FOUR people including driver. Drivers MUST have a satisfactorily mounted seat belt with shoulder strap that will be worn AT ALL TIMES during competition, along with a helmet which MUST have a C-Neck Collar and a Chin Strap fastened. Pit Crew and Drivers will wear an ID wrist band (provided by Judges), at ALL TIMES during the event. For SAFETY reasons, unauthorized persons in the pit area WILL NOT BE TOLERATED. You can be DISQUALIFIED and removed from competition.
b. Each team will have 30 minutes between the main heats to repair their combines for the next heat, except for the Round Robin heat which has NO repair time allotted. Pit crews may use whatever tools deemed necessary for repairs. A portable welder is advised.
3. Contest Rules
a. Each Combine will have an orange flag within arms reach of the driver, which will be pulled from view once they have been declared out of the present heat.Judges will determine this.
b. When a combine has NOT made an “aggressive” move against another opponent for TWO minutes, that combine will be pulled from that heat, and MUST lower their flag. ALL drivers WILL REMAIN SEATED, with seatbelts fastened and helmets strapped on until all action has ceased.
c. Each heat from the start through the Round Robin will have a TIME LIMIT of 15 Minutes. Judges will determine winners of each heat. The final round will be at least 20 minutes. Judges will have the option to extend time limits if deemed necessary.
d. THE JUDGES DECISIONS ARE FINAL
4. Day of the Derby
a. All combines entered need to be in the ARENA by 8:00 am Sunday morning.
b.
8:00 to 9:00 – The combines will be judged as to their compliance of
these rules.NO ONE ELSE WILL BE ALLOWED IN THE ARENA DURING JUDGING.
c.
9:30
to 10:30 – Drivers and their pit crews will be allowed to re-enter to make any
last minute “compliance” adjustments to their combines, if the Judges have
flagged them for violation issues.
d. 1:00pm – Start of the Derby
REMEMBER,IT’S SAFETY FIRST! Failure to comply with ANY of the rules can result in immediate disqualification and
dismissal from the event. The Nezperce Lions Club is counting on everyone involved to conduct themselves in a
good, sportsmanlike manner. You are here primarily to give the public a great show.
We want this to be a fun event, but foremost a SAFE event. With your cooperation, we hope to enjoy this event for years to come.
